November is Child Abuse Prevention Month
In order to help children lead safe and secure lives, we invite you to think about how to best prevent child abuse and protect children’s rights, and to start doing what you can to help.

Working together to stop child abuse

What is child abuse?

Physical abuse
Physical abuse is defined as hitting, kicking, or other physical assaults on a child’s body.

Psychological abuse
Psychological abuse is defined as using words or actions that hurt a child’s feelings, or committing domestic violence (DV) in front of a child.

Neglect
Neglect is defined as interfering with a child’s healthy development in some way, such as by ignoring the child or not feeding the child.

Sexual abuse
Sexual abuse is defined as performing an indecent act on a child or forcing a child to perform such an act.

  • Children who have been injured by abuse will recover with appropriate support. It is important to identify children who are suffering from distress as soon as possible, and to connect them with the relevant counseling services.
  • Anyone who discovers a child who appears to have been abused is required by law to notify the relevant authorities as soon as possible. All reports are treated in the strictest of confidentiality. If you have any concerns about a family’s circumstances, please contact one of the consultation services marked with a ★ below.
  • If you have any problems or difficulties in raising children, you are not alone. Please reach out to one of the below consultation services.

Let’s all work together to protect the right to a proper childhood

Have you heard of young caregivers?
Although the term “young caregiver” has no legal definition, it generally refers to a child who routinely performs household chores, cares for family members, and undertakes other tasks that are normally assumed to be the responsibility of adults.

There may be young caregivers around you.
If you are in need of help, please get in touch with one of the above consultation services for advice.

Let’s all help watch over the children in our community

In the community, various people are looking out for and supporting children.
